Alice McGurke Lavery
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, and grandmother (Nana), Alice McGurke Lavery (McKelvie), on August 14, 2024, after a courageous, seven year battle with cancer. We, as a family, are greatly appreciative of the time that we had to spend with her before her final day. She was surrounded by her family, with so much love and adoration, until her very last breath. Alice is survived by her three sons, Jason (Susan) Lavery; Bradley (Cheryl Collin) Lavery; and Bryan (Paula) Lavery; and her nine grandchildren, Shaelyn, Callum, Liam, Gavin, Nolan, Owen, Danica, Alyssa and Tyler; as well as many loving cousins and friends.
Alice Lavery was born on April 9, 1950 in London, England. After marrying Martin Lavery in 1968, the young couple moved to Canada in 1970, in search of new possibilities. Alice loved simple things like a cup of tea and a chat with one of her children or grandchildren, especially when it came to the topic of England. She loved to travel back and visit her British friends and family whenever she could.
Mum you are with your family now in heaven. You are the strongest person that we’ve ever known, even until the end. Thank you for that, Mum. We will miss you always and will see each other again one day. Love you Mum. This is never goodbye, just see you soon.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date that is still to be determined.
